University of Baltimore law professor, Daniel Hatcher exposes surprising and questionable business practices in his book, The Poverty Industry: The Exploitation of America’s Most Vulnerable Citizens.

This story underscores two issues:  every industry or profession has a dark side. While there are many foster caregivers and agencies with good reputations, too many others are in the industry for the money. And when the primary goal is money, the well-being of charges, clients, patients, or customers is usually not important.   And values used when entering a field are not always healthy.
